Samsung Galaxy S5 Beginner's Guide: Turn GPS on/off

This guide is intended for Galaxy S5 owners who are trying to use their phone's GPS feature for the first time.

GPS or Global Positioning System, is a phone feature that determines your geographical location/position. Majority, if not all Samsung devices like the Galaxy S5, has GPS feature.


You can use the information about your location in many different ways. It can also be used by a number of apps on your smartphone, including navigation, as well as the search function weather forecast. To use GPS, you have to enable the feature on your device beforehand.



If you too are new to the Galaxy S5 and need help in turning GPS feature on and off your device, we offer you this simple guide for your to refer to. Follow these steps, whenever you're ready.

1. Slide your finger down the screen, starting from the top edge of your phone.

2. Touch the Settings icon. It's the one that looks like a wheel icon, on the upper-right corner of the screen. This will get you to the Settings menu.

3. Under Settings, scroll to and touch Location.

4. In the next screen, touch the Indicator bar next to "Location" to enable or disable the function.

Note:
You have to turn Location function ON to enable the feature and use GPS on your phone.

5. If Location is turned on or enabled, touch the Agree button when prompted with the Location Consent message box.

6. Now, touch Mode under Location, and select one of the following options:

a. Turn on satellite-based and network-based GPS. To turn this feature on, touch High accuracy under Locating Mode.
Enabling this feature lets your phone find your current position quickly and with highest accuracy.

b. Turn on network-based GPS. To turn on this feature, touch Power saving under Locating Mode.
Enabling this feature lets your phone find your approximate position using your wireless network. Be sure to turn on wireless networks first for you to use this GPS feature, especially if you don't have a GPS satellite fix.

c. Turn on satellite-based GPS. To turn on this feature, touch GPS only under Locating Mode.
Enabling this feature will let your phone find your exact location. A clear view of the sky is necessary for the satellite-based GPS to function properly.

7. Once you're done choosing your preferred GPS option, save your settings and touch the Return key.

Your GPS settings has now been changed. You may now go back to the Home screen by touching the Home key.
