Here's a quick guide for new owners of Samsung Galaxy Alpha who need help in using the Phone app on their new smartphone.

Basic functions and uses of the Phone application will be covered in this content, including different options to make calls, use of number prediction, answering/rejecting calls, as well as other available options during a call.

If you need help doing any of the aforesaid functions with your Galaxy Alpha phone app, then you too may refer to this guide whenever you're set.

    1. How to Make Calls using Phone app

Similar to other Galaxy phones, the standard way to make a call on your Galaxy Alpha is through the Phone application. Follow these steps to launch the phone app on your Alpha device:

    1. Tap on Apps from the Home screen.
    2. From the Apps screen, tap on Phone to open the app.
    1. Tap on Keypad to continue.
    1. Enter a phone number to call.
    1. Tap to make a voice call.

You can also make calls to phone numbers listed or stored in your Call Logs, Favorites and Contacts.

Calling a number from Call Logs

To make a call from your call logs or contacts, simply tap on Logs or Contacts. Next, drag a phone or contact number to the right to make a call to that number. You can also disable this feature whenever you want. To disable or deactivate this call feature, simply drag an icon to the right then tap on Settings, select Contacts and then deselect or uncheck the option to Swipe to call or message.

    Calling a number from Favorites

To make a call to your contacts from the Favorites list, simply tap on Favorites and select a contact number to call. Be sure to add the number in the Favorites list first to make it appear. To easily call contacts that you frequently communicate with, add them to the Favorite contacts list.

    Adding a contact to Favorites

To add a contact to the Favorite list, tap on Contacts, and then select and tap the contact number you want to add.

    Using Number Prediction

The number prediction feature works by automatically showing predictions when you enter a number on the keypad, allowing you to simply select the number you want to call from the given number prediction results and then make the call.

Tap on Keypad, and then enter the number. Number prediction will prompt while you're entering the number.

    Using Speed dial numbers

A quicker way, or perhaps quickest way to make a call is using speed dial numbers. The first thing to do is to assign or set a contact to a speed dial number. Follow these steps:

    1. Tap and hold an available speed dial number on the keypad.
    2. Tap on OK.
    1. Select a contact.

    Alternately,

    1. Tap on Speed dial.
    1. Select a number.
    1. Select a contact.

After you assigned a contact to a speed dial number, you can try to call this number by tapping and holding the corresponding digit.

    1. How to Make an International Call

Here are the steps to make an international call with your Galaxy Alpha:

    1. Tap on Keypad.
    2. Tap and hold 0 until the + sign shows.
    1. Enter the country code, followed by the area code and the phone number and then tap the icon to initiate call.

You may also block outgoing international calls using call barring option. Here's how:

    1. Tap on Settings.
    1. Tap on Call.
    1. Select More Settings.
    2. Tap Call barring.
    1. Select a call type and then place a checkmark on International calls.

    1. How to Answer a Call

There are different ways to answer a call on your Galaxy Alpha. Options to answering a call may vary depending on how you configure phone options, or what you're doing or currently running on your device. Like for example, if a call comes in while you're using an app, you will be prompted with a call notification window. When this pop-up window appears, tap the Answer button in the pop-up window.

If you have activated call waiting service in your device, you can answer another call while on call. The first call will be automatically put on hold when the seconds call is answered.

    1. How to Reject a Call

If you don't want to answer an incoming call, then you can just reject that call. When you reject a call, drag outside the large circle when a call comes in. When you're prompted with the call notification window, while using an app, tap on Reject from that window.

You can also send a rejection message when rejecting an incoming call. To do so, simply drag the reject message bar upwards. You can create different rejection messages using these steps:

    1. Tap on Apps.
    1. Tap on Phone from the Apps screen.
    1. Select Settings.
    1. Tap Call.
    1. Select Call rejection.
    1. Tap on Rejection messages.

Alternately, you can automatically reject calls from unwanted numbers. Here's how:

    1. Tap on Phone from the Apps screen.
    1. Tap on Settings.
    1. Tap to select Call.
    1. Tap Call rejection.
    1. Select Auto reject mode.
    1. Tap Auto reject numbers.
    1. Tap Auto reject list.
    1. Enter a number you want to reject.
    2. Assign a category.
    3. Tap on Save.

You will be notified if you missed a call(s) on the status bar. To view the entire list of missed calls, just open the notifications panel. Another way is to go to Apps, tap on Phone and the tap Logs to view missed calls.

And that would be all for this guide.
