A factory data reset or hard reset is among the commonly used methods in fixing different issues with Samsung and other Android devices. This method however is recommended as the final resolution option to try on, if all prior methods have failed to fix the main problem on the device.
You have to note though that while this method can help resolve the existing problem, personal information that are stored in your device will also be erased in the process. To rectify this downside, creating a backup is a must before you begin resetting your device to factory defaults.
Among the problem in which a factory data reset can be applied to include a blank or frozen display, apps crashing or freezing, unresponsive keypad or touchscreen, audio problems, unable to receive/make calls, or when the device won't sync.
In case you will encounter any of the aforementioned problems with your Galaxy Note 4 in the future, then you already have one possible resolution procedure to try on.
A hard reset or factory data reset can be done in two ways -- using the phone Settings and hardware keys. The latter option is used when the device is unresponsive to touches.
A. Hard Reset Galaxy Note 4 using Settings menu
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Privacy.
3. Select Factory data reset.
4. Tap on Reset phone
5. Select Erase everything (delete all).
6. Wait until the reset is complete. It would take a few minutes for the entire process to complete.
B. Hard Reset Galaxy Note 4 using Hardware keys
1. Completely power off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Home buttons simultaneously.
3. While holding the Home and Volume Up buttons, press and hold the Power button until you will see the Recovery Booting displays on the upper left, then release all the buttons.
4. Select wipe data/factory reset. Use the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight the option and the Power button to select.
5. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
6. Wait for a few seconds for your device to complete the factory data reset process.
7. Select reboot system now.
8. Wait for a few minutes for your device to complete the reboot process.
9. After the reboot, proceed with the initial device setup and activation.
And after that, you should have your Galaxy Note 4 packed with factory default settings and services.
